No longer visible to you or I - it sits in a single moment.
A small sliver of time nestled inbetween two fractions of an instant so narrow we don’t have a word for it, if you can imagine that. And you strike me as someone who can imagine that, you are a clever person.
Ten-year-old Lucy has a miserable life
made so by her cruel adopted family.
Things take an extraordinary turn when a mysterious guest arrives to save her from a monster’s attack. Lucy is propelled to Alternity, a mind-bending city where time has stopped, although no one seems to have told the residents. Here life goes on even though the laws of nature have taken the day off. Lucy quickly becomes the target of the city’s Queen who has deadly intentions. Lucy must navigate Alternity's peculiar landscape, gather new and unusual friends and come up with a death defying solution. A task that turns out to be closer to home than she ever imagined.
Excerpt
Lucy suddenly noticed that as fast as she had been falling, she certainly wasn’t falling anymore.
There was in fact a distinct lack of falling.
Stopping hadn’t hurt either. Falling had just somehow ended. Which she noticed by sitting on the ground. She also noticed that her eyes were closed.
She stole a glance and saw the sun was shining in a mostly blue sky with some adorable puffy clouds. She stole a second glance and noticed rows of colorful houses, with pretty picket fences alongside one another on cobblestone streets. A third glance and she noticed there were many raised roadways overhead with upside down pretty houses along the undersides, with upside down picket fences and trees next to them. The upside down streets were suspended right over the right side up ones and all intersected with tall clock towers.
She pet Fred, who was purring in her arms. “Fred, I wanted to be somewhere else, didn’t I? It’s certainly like no street I’ve ever been on before.”
